Eric Hutchings

BOARD MEMBER

Eric grew up in Concord California, He started playing the trumpet in elementary school following in the footsteps of his father, Roger, who played the trumpet also. In junior high he was recruited into the Blue Devil feeder Corps in the brass section, but after his first year decided percussion looked more interesting and switched to the triple toms.  He kept with percussion and played the quads through high school.

Eric’s father served on the Blue Devil's Board of Directors and Eric often helped with bingo, which was the corps' primary fundraiser.  In 1984 Eric’s entire family (mom, dad and seven kids) climbed in a van and went on tour with the corps all the way from Concord to Montreal.  His father Roger drove a bus and the kids helped with the food truck and did a custom paint job on the staff bus during tour stops.

Eric has a Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University in Asian Studies and a Masters Degree from University of Utah in International Affairs.

Eric was elected in 2001 to the Utah House of Representatives representing District 38 on the west side of Salt Lake County and served until 2020.

He has also served on:

  • World Trade Center Utah Board of Directors

  • Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation Board of Directors

  • Odyssey House Board of Directors

  • University of Utah Global Ambassador

  • University Cote d’Azur Advisory Board

  • Member of Rotary International

  • Plus a few others

Eric has had a career in the finance industry and recently helped found a soil health company providing soil testing and fertilizer to large scale farms in the northwest.

Eric is very happily married to Stacey Hutchings.  They have four children and their daughter Alayna marched with the Battalion in the 2025 season.  So, of course they decided to help on tour for the first week where Eric drove the box truck and helped with special projects related to the refrigerator, and Stacey helped with the food truck.  Now he is getting sucked into the inner workings of the Battalion and could not be more thrilled to be part of “Utah’s Corps”.
