Ricky is originally a Tuba player and is a huge fan/advocate of the marching arts. He started playing the Tuba in 7th grade under his first band director, Victor Neves, who also happened to be the one that introduced him to Drum Corps. After moving to Roy, UT in 8th grade, he went on to graduate from Roy High School and then studied Music Education at Weber State University on a Tuba scholarship. During both high school and college, he played Tuba in the marching band, Tuba in concert bands and orchestras, Trombone in jazz band, and Bass Drum in winter drumline (original member of 2004 Thenami Winter Drumline, now Gold Spike Percussion). While a member of Weber State Wind Ensemble playing Tuba, he had the opportunity to perform both at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and Carnagie Hall in NYC. The highlight of his performance career was in 2006 when he marched Tuba with the Phantom Regiment. He then went on as a staff member of the Davis High School Marching Band from 2008 to 2013 teaching Brass, Marching, and Breathing, ultimately culminating in their 2013 Rose Parade performance.
Ricky is a Utah native that currently resides in Eagle Mountain, UT with his beautiful wife Kaela, and together they have 5 children: ages 16, 12, 10, 8, and 2. He loves listening to rap music, is a huge comedy fan, and is a corn dog aficionado. As a family, they love traveling to the Pacific Northwest, running around to all their kids’ activities, and having random family dance parties.
