Alberto Ortega is a percussionist, performer, and educator based in Colorado Springs, CO. Over the past decade, Alberto has had a range of experiences in both performing with various WGI groups as well as professional orchestras, and has instructed at various levels of the marching activity.


Alberto graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a B.A. in Music Education in 2019, studying percussion under Douglas Walter, Mike Tetrault, and Carl Dixon. During his time at CU, he gathered a multitude of percussion experiences from performing in the top Wind Ensembles and Orchestra, Percussion Ensembles, and Opera Program at the university. He has also performed with many ensembles around Colorado including the Boulder Symphony, Pikes Peak Philharmonic, Colorado Brass, and the Colorado College Summer Music Festival where he had the opportunity to play with musicians from around the world and perform on PBS’s “Now Hear This”.


In the marching arts, Alberto has performed with the New Mexico Adrena-Line as well as Altitude Percussion and has spent many years instructing both marching band as well WGI ensembles in various schools such as Manzano High School, Standley Lake High School, Fairview High School, Niwot High School, Liberty High School, and Rise 2 Percussion. Currently, Alberto is serving as the percussion director at Liberty High School and Discovery Canyon Campus High school, as well as the assistant front ensemble caption head for Rise Percussion. Alberto is a proud endorser of Mapex & Majestic Percussion.


Alberto is looking forward to begin working with the Battalion this year.
