RICK PINA - BRASS INSTRUCTOR

Rick started as a visual technician at Los Altos High School from 2000-2004. In 2005, he moved to teach at Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose, CA. After the fall season he was promoted to visual caption head and drill designer for the Evergreen Valley programs. These programs included winter percussion and fall marching band. Evergreen Valley has been a power house in WBA 2A circuit for the past 7 years. He has worked closely under the direction of Steve Barnhill during his time with Evergreen Valley. In 2012, he was promoted to assistant marching band director and has continued in the roles of drill writing and show design through the current season.

 

As for Drum Corps experience, Rick joined the Vanguard Cadets playing baritone in 1999. He later went on to march in the Santa Clara Vanguard for both 2001 and 2002 playing euphonium. Rick was on the brass staff for the Vanguard Cadets from 2007 to 2017. While on brass staff, the Vanguard Cadets achieved 4 brass titles in in Open Class Championships. In 2017, he had the additional responsibility of drill designer for the championship season also achieving both high general effect and visual titles. Rick remained on the design team as the assistant program coordinator to Rob Ripley for the Vanguard Cadets during the 2018 season. Vanguard Cadets achieved 5 championships in Open Class during his time there.
